Another fascinating aspect of Tywyn lies in its rich railway history. The Talyllyn Railway, which has its main station in Tywyn, is the world's first preserved railway. Opened in 1865, the railway was originally used to carry slate from the quarries at Bryn Eglwys to Tywyn. After the closure of the quarry in 1946, the railway was taken over by enthusiasts in 1951, making it the first railway in the world to be operated by volunteers. Today, the Talyllyn Railway serves as a popular tourist attraction, offering a nostalgic journey through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Wales.
