The charming town of Tring in Hertfordshire, England, holds a rather unique position in the annals of British history. It was here that, in 1821, the world's first-ever can of condensed milk was produced. The innovative entrepreneur behind this milestone was none other than William Newton, who took the inspiration from the Napoleonic Wars where the French government offered a hefty prize for anyone who could invent a method of preserving food. Newton's factory in Tring went on to produce condensed milk for several decades, making the town a pioneering centre in the food preservation industry.
