Did you know ?
Redruth, a town steeped in history, was once the heart of Cornwall's rich mining heritage which reached its peak in the 19th century. Interestingly, it is known as the birthplace of the steam engine, a pivotal invention in the industrial revolution. This came about due to the efforts of a local engineer, Richard Trevithick, who built the first full-scale working railway steam locomotive. Every year, the town commemorates Trevithick with a day of festivities known as 'Trevithick Day', bringing the streets alive with parades, traditional Cornish music and dance, demonstrating the deep-rooted pride the town holds for its industrial past.
