The Town of Redcar, situated in North Yorkshire, England, has a fascinating history closely intertwined with the fishing and steel industries. Nonetheless, one of its lesser-known aspects is its association with the 'Zetland Lifeboat', the world's oldest surviving lifeboat. Launched in 1802, the Zetland Lifeboat served for over 70 years, saving more than 500 lives from shipwrecks in the North Sea. Today, this remarkable piece of nautical heritage is proudly displayed in the 'Zetland Lifeboat Museum and Redcar Heritage Centre', a testament to the town's seafaring past and commitment to maritime safety.
