Fun Fact !
Interestingly, Purley has a significant place in aviation history. In the early 20th century, it housed the Croydon Airport, known then as the London Terminal Aerodrome. This airport, which was located on Purley Way, was Britain's first international airport and played a crucial role in the development of modern air transport. The airport was operational from 1920 to 1959 and was the main airport for London before Heathrow. The airport's original terminal building and Gate Lodge are still standing and have been designated as locally listed buildings, serving as a reminder of Purley's contribution to aviation history.
