One fascinating aspect of Porthcawl's history lies in its evolution from an industrial port to a seaside resort. Established in the 19th century, Porthcawl initially served as a coal port for the South Wales mining industry. However, as coal exports dwindled, the town reinvented itself as a holiday destination. By the early 20th century, Porthcawl had transformed into a thriving seaside resort, featuring the Grand Pavilion, an iconic building that was built in 1932 and still hosts a variety of entertainment events today. This shift in Porthcawl's identity showcases its resilience and adaptability, as well as the changing face of Wales's industrial history.
