Did you know ?
Pembroke Dock, or 'Doc Penfro' as it is known in Welsh, is steeped in maritime history. This town is home to the Royal Dockyard, established in 1814 by the British Admiralty. It is here that over 260 ships were built, including five royal yachts and several other vessels that saw action in both World Wars. Interestingly, the Royal Dockyard was also the site where the first mail ship to carry airmail was built in 1912. This ship, RMS Mauretania, was a symbol of the town's significant contribution to the United Kingdom's naval and aeronautical history.
