The Town of Neston, located in the picturesque county of Cheshire, England, boasts a rich history, notably its prominent role in the mining industry. The Neston Collieries, operational from the 16th century until their closure in 1928, produced a significant amount of coal for the surrounding region, even supplying the city of Chester. The mines were largely worked by women, known as 'Neston Female Pit Brow Workers', who uniquely wore trousers for their demanding work, a rarity for women of that era. This fascinating mining heritage is commemorated each year through the 'Neston Ladies Day', a procession that dates back to 1814 and honours the indomitable spirit of these women.
