The town of Limavady, situated in County Londonderry within Northern Ireland, holds an interesting musical history. It is the birthplace of the world-renowned tune, "Danny Boy," also known as "Londonderry Air." The melody, which is now famous worldwide, was first collected from a Limavady native named Jane Ross in the mid-19th century. Ross overheard a blind itinerant fiddler playing the tune and transcribed it, thus preserving what would become one of the most recognisable Irish melodies. This musical heritage is celebrated in Limavady with the annual Danny Boy Festival, a testament to the town's cultural significance.
