The Town of Halifax, nestled in the heart of West Yorkshire, England, boasts a rich and colourful tapestry of history. One of the most intriguing aspects of this town is the unique 'Halifax Gibbet', an early guillotine used for public executions. Remarkably, this was in operation well before the infamous French guillotine, with records dating back to as early as the 13th century. The Halifax Gibbet stands as a symbol of the town's historical commitment to justice. Its last recorded use was in 1650, and today, a non-operational replica stands on the original site as a stark reminder of the town's past.
