On another intriguing note, Fenton holds a unique place in literary history as well. It was this very town that inspired Arnold Bennett, a noted British novelist, in crafting the fictitious "Five Towns" in his novels, which are indeed based on the six towns of Stoke-on-Trent. Bennett's novels, set in these towns, eloquently depict the life, culture, and social nuances of the area during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Interestingly, Bennett chose to omit Fenton from his "Five Towns," thus bestowing upon Fenton the moniker of "the Forgotten Town." Today, the Arnold Bennett Society, based in Stoke-on-Trent, continues to celebrate the author's work, thus keeping Fenton's unique literary connection alive.
