Fun Fact !
Downpatrick, characterised by its rolling landscapes and rich history, is home to the Down Cathedral, an iconic structure that has been a place of worship for over two centuries. However, the cathedral's history has not always been stable. It has seen periods of ruin, abandonment, and restoration throughout its existence. One of the significant periods of ruin occurred in the 16th century during the dissolution of monasteries. It was later restored in the early 19th century and now stands as a testament to the town's resilience and enduring faith. The Cathedral, along with the adjacent St. Patrick's Grave, form the heart of this historic town and provide a fascinating glimpse into its storied past.
