The town of Dolgellau, nestled in the heart of Gwynedd, Wales, harbours a rich and intriguing history steeped in the gold mining industry. In the mid-19th century, this quaint Welsh town became the epicentre of the United Kingdom's gold rush. Remarkably, the Clogau St. David's Gold Mine located just outside Dolgellau, yielded enough high-quality gold to make wedding rings for the British Royal Family, including the bands for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's wedding in 1947. This lesser-known aspect of the town's history not only underscores its economic significance but also its subtle connection to the British monarchy.
