The quaint town of Clare, nestled in the charming countryside of Suffolk, England, has a rich and intriguing history that dates back to the Roman era. One lesser-known aspect of Clare's history is its significance during the Medieval period. Clare was once the home of the wealthiest woman in England, Elizabeth de Clare, who was a granddaughter of Edward I. She left a lasting legacy in Clare by founding Clare College in Cambridge, which was originally named University Hall. This connection to the Medieval period is still evident today, as the town is strewn with historical landmarks, including Clare Castle, a unique 13th-century fortification built by Elizabeth's ancestors, which still stands as a testament to the town's illustrious past.
