Fun Fact !
Chorley is steeped in history, but one lesser-known aspect is its connection to the cotton industry during the Industrial Revolution. The town was once a significant hub for cotton production, boasting numerous mills that marked its landscape. One of the most notable was the Birkacre Weaving Mill, established by Richard Arkwright, a prominent figure in the Industrial Revolution known for inventing the water frame. After a fire in 1779, the mill was rebuilt and went on to become the largest calico printing works globally. This historical prowess in cotton production has indeed shaped Chorley's economic and cultural landscape.
Wikipedia Says
Chorley is a town and the administrative centre of the wider Borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England, 8 miles (13 km) north of Wigan, 11 miles (18 km) south west of Blackburn, 11 miles (18 km) north west of Bolton, 12 miles (19 km) south of Preston and 20 miles (32 km) north west of Manchester. The town's wealth came principally from the cotton industry. In the 1970s, the skyline was dominated by factory chimneys, but most have now been demolished: remnants of the industrial past include Morrisons chimney and other mill buildings, and the streets of terraced houses for mill workers. Chorley is the home of the Chorley cake.
