Did you know ?
The town of Carmarthen, nestled in the heart of Carmarthenshire, Wales, boasts a rich historical pedigree, notably claiming the title of 'oldest town in Wales'. This assertion is underpinned by archaeological evidence of a Roman fort, dating back to AD 75-77. However, the town's history might extend even further back, with local folklore suggesting Carmarthen as the birthplace of Merlin, the legendary wizard from Arthurian lore. The name 'Carmarthen' itself is said to derive from 'Merlin's fort' or 'Caerfyrddin' in Welsh, adding another layer of intrigue to this age-old town.
