Known for its brewing heritage, Burton upon Trent, located in Staffordshire, England, holds a distinctive place in the world of beer production. The town's unique geography played a significant role in its rise to prominence as a brewing powerhouse. The underground water sources in Burton are rich in gypsum, a mineral that enhances the flavour of beer and makes it more stable and clear. This "Burtonisation" of water, named after the town itself, is now emulated worldwide by beer producers seeking to recreate the distinctive quality of Burton-brewed beer. The town had over 30 breweries in the 19th century, and although the number has reduced, the legacy continues with breweries like Marston's, Molson Coors, and Burton Bridge Brewery.
