Did you know ?
The town of Buckley, located in Flintshire, Wales, is renowned for its rich industrial heritage, particularly in pottery and brick-making. However, a lesser-known fact about this town pertains to its unique geological feature. Deep beneath its surface lies a substantial layer of coal, which has played a key role in its industrialisation. Yet, what sets Buckley apart is the presence of fireclay, a rare type of clay that withstands high temperatures. These natural resources significantly shaped the town's economic trajectory, with Buckley becoming a prominent hub for coal mining and the production of firebricks and pottery in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Buckley Pottery industry, now defunct, was once amongst the largest in the United Kingdom, with its products exported worldwide.
