This fort served as a significant outpost for Roman Britain, and archaeologists have discovered numerous artefacts here, including a unique inscription identifying the town by its Roman name. The inscription is the only known example in the entire Roman Empire where the name of the town appears on a stone inscription within the town itself, a testament to Brough's historical significance.
