Did you know ?
The Town of Belfast, nestled in County Antrim, Ireland, is renowned for its rich industrial heritage. However, one lesser-known fact is its significant contribution to the tobacco industry during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Belfast was home to the world's largest tobacco factory, owned by Gallaher Ltd. Established in 1867, at its peak, it employed over 7,000 people and produced a staggering variety of tobacco products. The factory's most famous product, the 'Park Drive' cigarettes, were a household name across the British Isles and abroad. This aspect of Belfast's industrial history is often overshadowed by its globally recognized shipbuilding industry.
