The town of Bampton in Devon, England, carries a rich history and unique charm that has been preserved through centuries. One particularly fascinating aspect is its historic link to the wool trade during the medieval period. As early as the 13th century, Bampton was known for its 'Sheep Fair', a significant event that attracted traders and farmers from all around. The fair was so influential that it helped shape the town's prosperity, with many of the beautiful Georgian and Victorian buildings that line the town's streets today financed by the wealth brought in by this trade. Even today, the annual Bampton Fair, held on the last Thursday in October, is a nod to this illustrious past, featuring a lively mix of livestock, food, crafts, and entertainment.
