The town of Arundel is known for its magnificent castle, but few may know that it is one of the longest inhabited country houses in England. The Arundel Castle has been the family home of the Dukes of Norfolk for over 850 years, with its history dating back to the reign of Edward the Confessor. It has seen significant architectural changes over the centuries, from a motte-and-bailey castle in the 11th century to a grand, stately home today. The castle boasts a mix of architectural styles, combining medieval fortifications with a Gothic Victorian interior. Arundel Castle is a testament to the town's rich history and the changes in architectural tastes throughout the centuries.
